On this beautiful sunny summer day, I took Andrea with me and showed her the scenic hike between the Salzburger and Berchtesgadener Hochtron. It’s a 4-hour hike between the Austrian and German peaks.
We went with two cars. First, we left one at the parking spot on Ettenberg, where our tour would finish today. Then, we drove back to Grödig and took the first cable car in the morning to avoid the heat of the sun.

The panorama of the Untersberg is breathtaking, so throughout the entire trip, you will find yourself turning your head around, unsure of where to look.
The hike between the two peaks took us a bit more than 4 hours. After a small break at the Berchtesgadener peak, we continued our path down to Ettenberg. But first, we made a stop at the Stöhrhaus and recharged our batteries with a refreshing Weißbier.
After our short break, it took us 3 hours to get back to the car, covering 14.58 km in 7 hours and 35 minutes of hiking. The highest point of the tour was 1973 meters.
This is definitely not a beginner’s tour, but I can highly recommend it for everyone who has already experienced mountains and would like to spend a whole day on the magical Untersberg.
